Caffeine and Cognitive Performance
Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant. Research questions around cognition commonly separate outcomes such as vigilance, attention, reaction time and subjective alertness rather than treating cognition as a single score.
Context changes the result
Habitual caffeine use, withdrawal reversal, sleep loss, dose and timing can all affect what a study—or an individual—experiences. That is why we avoid turning “caffeine helps alertness” into a blanket claim that more caffeine improves every cognitive task.
